12 chorales compete in 'Himig ng Pasko' Updated November 23, 2008 12:00 AM
Twelve chorales will compete in Manila Broadcasting Company’s Himig ng Pasko chorale competition (Open category) at the Star Theater, MBC Bldg., Star City, CCP Complex, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City.Vying for the championship are the 8th of December, University of Makati Chorale, and Coro de San Gabriel on Dec. 9; Music and Praise Chorale, Musicainta, and Genesis Choir on Dec. 10; Letran Choral Guild, Sandiwa Chorale, and the DILG Voice Group on Dec. 11; and Kammerchor, Coro de Manila, and OMPHP Youth Ensemble on Dec. 12. The four nightly winners will then compete during the grand finals on Dec. 13.
Conducted by Christopher Borela, the 8th of December is comprised of students and professionals. The choir has served the
Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish in West Triangle and the Lady of Pentecost Parish near Katipunan Ave., QC.Since its inception in 2003, the University of Makati Chorale has been propelled by a mission to respond to the cultural aspirations of Makati as its official ambassadors of goodwill. It is currently under the baton of Elsie Eranista.Coro de San Gabriel, conducted by Ronnel Calabon, is composed of award-winning soloists from six different barangays under the parish of San Gabriel the Archangel in San Pablo, Laguna.
Music and Praise Chorale, under the baton of Bro. Bert Edades, serves the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of Paskong Himig sa Pasig for winning four consecutive times. Musicainta is a mixed chamber choir from the Our Lady of Light Parish in barangay San Andres, Cainta, Rizal. It was established in 2006 by Leo Landicho.In 1986, two distinct choirs of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Marikina merged, marking the birth of Genesis Choir. Conducted by Van Lawrence Virto, the group has been serving the church for the past 22 years.

The Letran Chorale, Instrumentalists, and Artists Guild was formed in 2005 by Adrian Bagayaua. The Sandiwa Chorale is composed of former students from theCentral Colleges of the Philippines, who continue to sing with each other as a community glee club. It is under the stewardship of Emerald Hope Evangelista.The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Voice Group was organized eight years ago when the committee chairperson of the EDSA People Power celebration invited all national government agencies to participate in One Thousand Voices. It is conducted by Tonette Campillanes.
